How do you plan a group trip when everyone wants something different?

Last verified

Goyondo's Group Harmony collects each traveller's dates, destination choices and budget, then runs an alignment that proposes the overlap as one plan the group can accept or push back on.

Each person, or their own AI assistant, can submit preferences, and the trip persists in Goyondo so everyone keeps editing the same plan.

How Group Harmony works

  1. Inputs. Each member joins with the trip code and submits ideal dates, flexibility and blackout dates, top destination choices and vetoes, and a budget range. Members can also add links and places to a shared inspiration board.
  2. Alignment run. The trip lead, who is the creator by default, runs alignment. Goyondo reconciles dates, destination and budget and returns what the group agrees on, the remaining conflicts and an alignment score.
  3. Proposals. The result proposes a destination and dates. Each round gives members 48 hours to respond, and anyone who has not responded when the next round runs is counted as accepting.
  4. Approval. After two rounds without agreement, the creator decides or extends the rounds. Votes an assistant casts on places stay advisory until the human member confirms them.

Worked example

Three friends plan a week in Japan or Korea in April. The names and numbers below are made up to show how alignment works.

Maya
10–17 April, ±3 days, can't travel on 20 April. Top choices: Tokyo, Osaka. Veto: Bangkok. Budget USD 1,500–2,500.
Jon
12–19 April, ±2 days. Top choice: Osaka. Budget USD 1,200–2,000.
Priya (via her AI assistant)
11–18 April, ±1 day. Top choices: Osaka, Seoul. Budget USD 1,800–2,600.

Alignment proposes Osaka for 12–17 April with a shared budget of USD 1,800–2,000. Dates, destination and budget are all reconciled, so the alignment score is 95 out of 100. If nobody objects within 48 hours, the group moves on to building the itinerary together.

Frequently asked questions

What does Group Harmony reconcile?
Dates, destination and budget. Other preferences, such as accommodation style and activities, are shared with the group but are not reconciled by alignment.
Can an AI assistant take part?
Yes. A member's own assistant can join the trip, submit preferences and vote on places through Goyondo's tools. Its votes on places are advisory until the member confirms them.
What happens if we still disagree?
Each round lasts 48 hours. After two rounds without agreement, the trip goes back to the creator, who can decide or extend the rounds.
Can my assistant book flights or hotels through Goyondo?
No. Goyondo does not place bookings or show live availability or prices. Your assistant can record a booking you made elsewhere so it stays with the trip.
